How to prepare for the arrival of your baby (hint: it’s not getting the nursery ready!)
Honestly, from one first time mum to another, the nursery can really wait. We get it! We all love a bit of nesting and it feels like a productive way to channel that nesting energy. The nursery, the tiny clothes (oh the tiny clothes), the washing, the nappies all lined up. It’s exciting and helps you feel prepared. However, if we could encourage you to nest in one other way, it would be this:
Prepare for YOU.
Because once the baby arrives, everyone asks about the baby… but how much time are we actually spending preparing you for those first few weeks?
Think about:
✨ Who’s going to support you when you’re exhausted?
✨ What meals can you have ready in the freezer?
✨ What will you need for your own recovery?
✨ Where can you access pelvic health support?
✨ Who can you call if feeding feels difficult?
✨ What boundaries do you want to set around visitors?
✨ And what do you actually want those first few weeks at home to look like?
You don't need a perfect plan. In fact, babies have a funny way of making sure plans go out the window. But having some idea of what you might need, who you can lean on and where to get help can make such a difference. This is a big part of what we talk about in our antenatal classes too, not just “how to have a baby”, but how to feel prepared for everything that comes after birth.
We'd love to have you join us on one of our Antenatal Courses so we can share, discuss and help you navigate what challenges you might face during this period.
