Best Outdoor Activities In Levenshulme With A Baby

Sick of walking to the post office to pick up your latest Vinted parcel as your daily outdoor activity? We’ve rounded up some outdoor activities and parks you can visit locally on maternity leave to get that much needed Vitamin D and fresh air.

  1. Bluebell Green - Prior to being a Mum, I’d heard of Bluebell Green but had never visited. All I can say is I’m SO glad I’ve discovered it now and we are so lucky to have such a wonderful community garden on our doorstep. It’s run by volunteers and there’s a programme of activities throughout the week for people of all ages. Notably for new parents, Nurtured By Nature was a firm favourite of mine (for ages 0-1). Every Tuesday morning we meet either in the garden outside or in the polytunnel if it’s too wet, and sit together in nature. Bring a mug, because there’s tea and coffee available, and the volunteers who run it usually run an optional gentle activity. Sometimes I would go and chat the whole time and make lots of new friends, and other days when life felt very hard, I’d just go and exist. Either way my cup was always filled. (See their Instagram for details on all activities).

  2. Cringle Park - Gets another mention from us! It has everything - greenery, cafe, toilet (with baby changing) and a fantastic play park for when they’re a little older. Impossible to walk around Cringle without waving hello to a fellow parent & baby. And did we mention? A cup of tea is £1!

  3. Fallowfield Loop - This was actually one of my favourite walks in the winter months, or on really hot days when I still wanted to get out. The trees create lots of shade and keep it every so slightly cooler, and in the gloomier months protects you that little bit more from the rain! Probably best to avoid it during commuter times as there’s lots of bikes whizzing up and down, but definitely deserving of a purposeful walk.

  4. Highfield Country Park - This was my go to when I was feeling overwhelmed or overstimulated. It really takes you out of the city and helps you to feel immersed in nature. If your baby likes a bumpy pram ride to get them to sleep, then it’s a perfect place to go for a nap walk and “switch off” for a moment.
